Carbon 101

Carbon 101 is a half-day introductory course to climate change and what this means for businesses. The course is split into four parts designed to give the attendee a greater understanding of what climate change is, how this could impact business, and how to report and reduce carbon emissions.

The four parts of the course are:

 

  1. Introduction to climate change – starting with the science behind climate change, looking at regulation and policy and ending with the challenge we have (as a country, as businesses and personally to reduce our carbon footprint).
  2. Business and climate change – showing why businesses should care about climate change, the risks and opportunities it brings and introducing the carbon management process.
  3. Carbon Accounting – defining the process for setting boundaries, gathering data, measuring emissions, reporting and developing carbon baselines.
  4. Climate Strategies – following on from reporting, this section will look at the areas a business must address in order develop strong targets and a roadmap of how to deliver.

By the end of the course, the attendee will know:

  • Why our climate is changing, the impacts this has, and the link between temperatures and GHG emissions
  • The regulations globally and in the UK to limit the rise in global average temperatures
  • Why carbon management is important for businesses
  • How to incorporate carbon management within their organisation
  • The importance of carbon accounting and how to report carbon emissions
  • How to set targets and develop a climate change action plan to minimise emissions.
